The Stone Creek Factory

The Factory is home to Stone Creek Coffee's roaster, corporate offices, warehouse, and training center. The Stone Creek Factory is where we roast and blend all of our coffees, where we train our staff in the fine arts of the barista, and (most importantly) where we have all of our parties. We also process our wholesale and Internet orders from the Factory and provide service to our stores.

Burnham and Root
The Factory was built in 1888, by the design team Burnham and Root. Daniel Burnham and John Root were acclaimed “ Chicago School ” architects, an innovative pair most recognized for their work in the Windy City at the turn of the century.

Some of Burnham and Root's notable buildings in Chicago include:

• The Rookery Building on South LaSalle.
• St. Gabriel's Church on SouthLowe
• The Rand-McNally Building
• The Masonic Temple (which in 1892 was the world's tallest building at 22 floors)

The firm also designed a large variety of smaller commercial buildings that included warehouses, railroad stations, hotels and hospitals.

Tenants
The history of the Stone Creek Factory includes a variety of tenants, including a first tenant that represents something of a mystery. Here is what we have peiced together so far:

1888 - Davidson and Son
(Given our location in downtown Milwaukee, we are researching this company to find out if this is the Davidson bicycle company, the same company that eventually became the Davidson of Harley-Davidson.)

1899 - BJ Johnson Soap Company
( This company build the back half of the building, where our roaster and warehouse is located today.)

Herlic Corporation
(This company was a manufacturer of parts for radios.)

1950's - Hole-Proof Hosiery & Boston Store Warehouse

1960's to 1990's - Basic Fixtures

1990's to 1999 - 5 th Street Antiques

1999 t0 Present - Stone Creek Coffee

The Stone Creek Factory is located in downtown Milwaukee at 5th and St. Paul. We are located on the east side of 5th Street, in between St. Paul and Clybourn. The mailing address is Stone Creek Factory, 422 N. 5th Street, Milwaukee, WI 53203.
