What Is RSS? RSS, a very official-sounding acronym, stands for Rich Site Summary. RSS is basically a special way of coding web site content that allows people to check the web site for updates without actually needing to visit the web site. You do this by using a special (and typically free) program called a RSS reader, which will automatically go to the web site and check the RSS feed to see if there are any changes in the content since the last time the feed was checked. It is sort of like a combination of web surfing and email. The best part about RSS is that it allows you specify what sites you want to access. Meaning, there is no SPAM to deal with. Or, pop-up advertising. At Stone Creek Coffee, we offer an RSS feed of our company Blog so customers and our staff can stay current with our comings and goings. If you are interested in following our Blog, you can access our RSS feed at the following address: http://sccv3.stonecreekcoffee.com/index.xml If you need an RSS reader, the one we use is called Feedreader and it is free. You can download it at the following address: In addition, the following article offers a nice review several free RSS Readers: http://email.about.com/cs/rssfeedreaders/tp/windows_free.htm Please note that we provide these links as a convenience to our customers. We are not affiliated with the software manufacturers in any way and as a result cannot offer assistance with their setup or installation. |
